To receive academic credit for an internship or co-op experience, students must meet the following hourly requirements within a single semester:

  • Internship (Course 396 or 696): Approximately 150 work hours are required to earn 3 credit hours.
  • Co-op (CEP 300): Approximately 150 work hours are required to earn 3 credit hours.

Next Steps

For ASE 396, BIS 396, CIT 396, CSC 396, CYS 396, DSC 396, and HIN 396, students need to report the experience on Handshake. Once both the employer's and faculty's approval is received through Handshake, then a permit is issued and you will be contacted via email with permission to enroll. It is advised to discuss learning objectives with the faculty member who is in charge of experiential learning. You can find the faculty coordinator for your specific class using the 

For COI X96 Courses:
Students must report their internship experience through Handshake. After the experience is approved by both the employer and the faculty coordinator in Handshake, a permit will be issued. You will then receive an email with instructions to enroll in the course.

Before submitting your experience, it’s recommended that you discuss your learning objectives with the faculty member overseeing experiential learning for your major. To identify the appropriate faculty coordinator, refer to the for your specific X96 course.

For CEP 300 (Co-op Course):
Students must also report their co-op experience through Handshake. Once both the employer and faculty have approved the experience, Career Services will handle the registration process and enroll you directly into CEP 300.
